Guess what — ya girl turned 26 on February 23rd! :)
They say our pre-frontal lobe fully develops at 25, and I did read into the science of it. It’s true.
But beyond what can be measured, I promise the personal growth does NOT stop, regardless if you’re 16, 26, 46, or 66.
Our brains may be fully formed, yes. But our beliefs, values, learnings, epiphanies, healing? Growth not just externally, but most pertinently mentally, emotionally, and spiritually?
It does not stop. And that’s both amazing and humbling.
Every year, I think I've reached the peak of knowing myself and learning life's lessons — YET every year, I'm humbled (gladly) by experiences that teach me even MORE lessons I didn’t know I needed.
My early twenties gave me wake-up calls in finance, dating, friendships, family, and fitness (my podcast spills loads of it, including how I lost $20K+ in a stock).
Then, my 25th year taught me NEW lessons on truly loving my body, PATIENCE, integrity, communicating my needs, and faith / spirituality.
It's crazy, because 20 year-old Meg wouldn't recognize me now. Heck, even Meg from exactly a year ago was so different (and naive!) compared to who I am today. The more you learn, the humbler you become — because now I know that there's still and ALWAYS even more to be learned.
Every time life gives me a curveball, I ask myself: "How could I have managed this better? What does this teach me about my beliefs and values? What changes can I make? What's the lesson here, and what can I internalize for my future self?"
I do reassure ya'll though — it does get easier the more you grow. Why?
Because the more you grow, the more you develop a stronger sense of self and a set of principles/values true to you. And these make it easier to LIVE ON YOUR OWN TERMS, as opposed to others' terms (which we were so used to doing, most of growing up).
Growing up and growing is a crazy experience — it ain't easy (heck, tears are almost always involved), but I would NEVER trade the bumpy ride for the easy road. The tough lessons are what end up defining who we become. Plus, they make for great stories. :)
So here's your reminder today: if you feel yourself/your life changing, be it your friendships, environment, self-perception, job, beliefs, values, or interests — best believe, you're simply growing.
I'm proud of you no matter where you're at, and I'm growing right here alongside you.
Your bestie,
Meg

Podcast I’m listening to:
A snappy read / watch:
Quote I’m pondering:
“God will always bring the right people into your life, but you have to let the wrong people walk away.” —Joel Osteen
Raw life update:
Had a slew of birthday celebrations — a drunken one in Toronto, and more wholesome one in Vancouver (albeit with 70 friendos) and I’m so grateful to have entered 26 surrounded by SO much love <3
Had to cut some toxic ties from my life for good (and there’s a whole mess that went into it, but I feel so much lighter now).
Flew back to Vancouver for a week-long trip — and got three SOLID snowboard days on Cypress, celebrated a friend’s birthday, reunited with some besties, hung out with my fam, had my second bday party, and saw Mitis the final night!
Took on some new initiatives and opportunities at work, and been absolutely LOVINGGG the growth, challenge, and impact :) Plus sharpening my skills with new courses and programs!
