Happy Monday friends, Iâve missed you all. <3
Slow living (or as some call it, the âgrandma lifestyleâ) is my new favourite thing.
I had a couple late nights the past two weeks, in honour of seeing some dear friends before I leave for Toronto â the only reason I went out clubbing (fully sober, btw). And I had a ton of fun.
But, as I returned home hours past my bedtime, and quietly shut my door as to not wake up my parents, I thought to myself: late nights just arenât worth it anymore. Loud music and ringing ears donât feel good. Dancing was cool, but Iâd rather save that energy for a morning gym sesh. The company was great, but wouldâve been just as sweet in normal waking hours, in environments where we donât have to shout.
On any given night, clubbing can no longer compare to a nice shower, my cozy bed, and a warm cup of tea. I value routine and peace more than crazy nights, and itâs crazy to contextualize â just over a year ago, I was getting drunk almost every week, sometimes multiple times in one. I had loads of fun, and wouldnât change a thing â it was right for that chapter of my life.
Some might give you flack for changing, at times condescendingly. âYouâre no fun anymore.â âWhat happened to you?â âYouâve changed.â (No sh*t, thatâs a part of growth.) Donât listen to them.
When priorities and values shift, so do your lifestyle and preferences â and often, so do the people around you.
Donât condone others for being different, either. Protect your energy, live in your lane, but stay humble knowing darn good well that youâre also only human. And if you find yourself twerking on a bar table at 28 years-old, thatâs also pretty f*cking awesome.
Whether youâre in your party girl era, healing era, grandma era, academic era, girlboss era, travel era, whatever XXX era you want to define for yourself â as long as itâs on your own terms, keep on live-laugh-loving.
In honour of entering my grandma era at the ripe age of 25 (for nowâŠ), here are some slow living tips I want to share with yaâll, in the form of lists!
