đ How to get fit
A healed approach to fitness & "getting the summer body"
Happy Monday friends â and hello to the new subscribers, thanks for being here and nice to e-meet you! <3
Summer is just around the corner. (EDC is just around the corner.) You know what that means⊠itâs time to get snatched. (No, not by a special someone, though thatâd be nice too. I mean the waist.)
About a year ago, I wrote a newsletter about my disordered eating journey. In an aggressive attempt to lose weight last year, Iâd swung myself into severe calorie restriction, over-exercising, and an ultimately painful relationship with food and my body. What shouldâve been a self-empowering process had turned into obsession and distress. And it wasnât even effective.
This year, my approach is drastically different. Thankfully, the winter bulk was a healthier, happier bulk â and learning to trust my body and fall in love with the process, as simple as it all sounds, was truly the key to everything.
But a necessary, albeit difficult ingredient, is discipline. We can âlisten to our bodiesâ all we want, but itâs SO important to discern between self-care and laziness. Every time I had âlet myself go,â it was due to fulfilling cravings fuelled by unresolved emotions â ie. eating out of boredom, or skipping the gym âcuz âI just donât feel like it.â
Last year, I was counting every calorie and forcing myself to sweat even when my body was physically depleted.
This year, Iâm eating mindfully, getting protein in every meal, and still having the sweet treat here and there â plus following a workout program I love, while embracing rest days when my body needs it.
Best of all, Iâm detached from the outcome. It matters way less the number on the scale, but rather, how I FEEL on a day-to-day basis.
Tis been 3 weeks into my cut, and I already feel healthier and more confident :â)
So if youâre also on a journey to âgetting snatched for summer,â hereâs your reminder to do it the sustainable and intuitive way, layered in with discipline coming from a place of self love.
Most importantly, donât forget to live your life and make it a process you genuinely enjoy. (I personally LOVE long walks outdoors during sunset, with a nice podcast or phone call.)
NOW GO DRINK A GLASS OF WATER AND GAS YOURSELF UP FOR SUMMER YOU HOT THANG (respectfully) :3
Love,
Meg
